Join Us This Friday to Support Lung Cancer Awareness + £1 Raffle Tickets!

This Friday will be a special day. Not only is it World Lung Cancer Day, a cause that's near and dear to our hearts, but we're also excited to be celebrating the launch of Rosem Health, our new clinic dedicated to skin health, wellbeing and rejuvenation. We warmly invite everyone to join us for a day bursting with community fun, food, learning, tours and demonstrations. Plus the chance to win many fantastic prizes with our £1 raffle!

Our event has a powerful mission. We aim to support the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, which plays an essential role in fighting against lung cancer. This cause is particularly close to our hearts, as we have witnessed the profound impact of lung cancer on families. In fact, statistics show that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the UK, accounting for 22% of all cancer deaths. This is a stark reminder of why awareness and support are critical.

Notably, lung cancer takes more lives among women than breast cancer does. Delays in diagnosis significantly contribute to this issue. Rosalind Jones, Co-Director of Rosem Health, faced an unimaginable loss just three years ago when her daughter Rhiannon, only 36 years old and a non-smoker, was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma. Tragically, she lost her life within just seven weeks.

Rhiannon’s story is a poignant reminder of the importance of lung cancer awareness. Many people don’t realise that non-smokers can also suffer from this disease. As we celebrate the launch of Rosem Health, we will also share Rhiannon’s impactful story, reinforcing the idea that awareness can save lives.

Understanding Lung Cancer: Symptoms and Causes

Understanding lung cancer is essential, especially since it is often diagnosed only at an advanced stage. Common symptoms to look out for include:

  • Persistent Cough: If a cough lasts more than three weeks, consider seeking medical advice.

  • Shortness of Breath: This can significantly affect daily life.

  • Unexplained Weight Loss: Losing weight without trying can be a warning sign.

In addition to these, symptoms like fatigue, wheezing, and coughing up blood should never be dismissed.

While smoking is the most commonly recognised risk factor for lung cancer, it is not the sole cause. Research indicates that approximately 15% of lung cancer cases occur in non-smokers. Factors such as repeated exposure to second-hand smoke, air pollution, and occupational hazards like asbestos are all contributors. Additionally, genetics plays a role; some may carry inherited traits that increase their risk.

Rhiannon's story exemplifies the need for vigilance and awareness surrounding this disease. By attending our event this Friday, you are helping to promote important education and support for those affected by lung cancer.
